Born in Ghent, Belgium,, Max studied fine art in London at the Byam Shaw School of Art, and did a postgraduate in etching at the Slade School, UCL. He later taught at both schools, and later set up his own etching workshop. In the late 90s he moved to Argentina for 6 years, then moved to the USA where he now lives and works.
Max also completed in the past a large public project in Lisbon Portugal, with the Portuguese artist Bartolomeo Dos santos, which consisted with the decoration of an entire underground station using the unusual technique if etching on limestone.
In 2003 max was commissioned by the Household Cavalry to commemorate an event occurring every 10 years called " The Changing of Standards And Guidons Parade", a private ceremony which was attended by Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II, and the Duke of Edinburgh in Whitehall in London.
