I was born in the countryside in North Karelia. The distance to the Russian border was 50-70km. Fields, forests, lakes and animals were part of the circle of life. Nature has determined the reality of our life. In midsummer, the sun does not set. It can be seen in the sky even at night. At the end of the year during the darkest period, the sun does not rise above the horizon, in Lapland it remains hidden for 4-52 days. However, the white snow of winter reflects the lights of the sky and stars, creating mystical colours in the landscape. Nature is a deep source of creativity for Finns.

For my studies I came to Helsinki. First I studied to be a textile artist. I designed printed fabrics, with nature motives. Working with my hands is the spice of life. I developed for my art works a mixed media method using recycled wood based materials, later also thin aluminium. These my relief paintings were 2007 first time in my exhibition. These works are nature-related, both the material and the themes. Later I saw that the works like mine are called in Italy Arte Povera.

Small and large phenomena in the history of different cultures, have always challenged my thoughts. I studied at the Helsinki University and graduated with an M.A. The great old stories fascinate me, now as before. I have painted series of my interpretations of historical stories as oil paintings. Interpretations of history require sensitivity and flexibility in expression. I studied for years oil painting, technics of old masters, watercolor, figure painting, portrait painting, and also prehistoric rock painting using pigments.

Parzifal is one of my oil painting series. The Parzifal chronicle is based on stories from 1100-1200 in Central Europe. The chronicle was a compilation of what had been heard and seen. It was told over and over again, in new places to new people, from memory. This is how the chronicle survived and changed over time as a renewed narrative. The Knights-errant, like Parzifal, were the travelling messengers of their time about what had happened and been heard. My Parzifal painting series is mainly abstract, as our knowledge of those times is quite limited.

The great and eternal love story Romeo and Juliet is one of my painting series. I find Shakespeare’s language very picturesque and challenging. There are many sources of information about the time of Romeo and Juliet. In my paintings, the story has taken on a figurative form.

Great stories never die. Great emotions have left deep traces in cultural history and life stories. One great trace in Europe is Carmen. As an opera, it always receives new interpretations. Its power as a source of creativity is endless, emotions live in all of us. Carmen challenged me to paint a series of works about beauty, love, disappointment, loss. Human life.

My Anti-war art painting series is my own understanding of current wars. To slaughter the people. Offensive wars now are brutally tearing the world apart, people are being torn to pieces. We are wealthy enough and our power is strong enough to commit terrible acts of destruction. Good and evil struggle in the lives of people and nations. The facts in the wars show the limitlessness of human cruelty in relations with other people. The brutal acts of war crush the victims, but also the minds of attackers. This destruction proves that those leaders of nations, who start the offensive war, have failed in their responsible work. They have lost their humanity. In their dark withered hearts only the blind ego remains.
