Josip Rubes, was born in Jastrebarsko, Croatia, in 1942.
He is a graduated painter and a retired doctor. His childhood was spent in an idyllic village nestled near Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Already in his childhood he wanted to be a painter when he grew up but his life path took him to medicine. In 1970 he graduated from the Medical Faculty, University of Zagreb. Until his retirement in 2007 he worked at Krapinske Toplice Special Hospital, Croatia. He graduated from the Arthouse College of Visual Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia with theme "Panting by Jackson Pollock".
He has been drawing and painting since early youth and coming to Croatian Zagorje in 1972. The inspiration lies in the beauty of this Croatian region. The main picture of landscapes in the technique od dry pastel. Since 2008, the image has been abstract styled by the inspiration of J. Pollock's paintings. For the last few years he has been painting geometric abstraction. He has made 80 solo exhibitions and has participated in around 300 collective exhibitions in Croatia and broad.
My style of painting and especially geometric abstraction, requires the precision of the performance of certain geometric bodies and lines, the imagination in composing the composition, the exceptional concentration in combining colors. Depending on the size of the canvas and the number of its geometric elements and details, depends also the time spent on working on the painting.
Observing nature in all its beauty and color diversity in each one of its seasons leaves a big impression, on me inspires me to make landscape and abstract paintings. My artworks are the results of my enthusiasm and passion for painting, which can be seen in my paintings. My paintings are vivid and encourage the viewer to think positively, be content and have peace of mind.
