Mario Zammit-Lewis also known as "IL MALTESE" in Italy is born in 1949 in Msida, Malta. He moved to Turin, Italy from Paris, France in 1963 as a teenager. He started painting at the age of 16 (oil painting) before only pencil drawing and sum aquarelles.

His first solo exhibition in 1970 in Turin , then in 71 also in Turin. 1976 he received a gold medal form the Italian Academy and 1982 he was named Maestro di Pittura in Salsomaggiore Terme. He then went on to take part in exhibits around the world. In 2000 he has is studio in Hong Kong and 2011 in Philippines. 2015 he moves back to Malta and has been doing oil paintings ever since.

He became famous for his nudes be cos of his second signature as background of his oil painting with canvas, frames etc... since the first on in 1969. He also make portraits, religious scenes, sea views, cities and anything on demand.

A set he is working on for many years is scenes of his trips as he travelled a lot and still thus.
