Sonia Viccaro

Sonia Viccaro was born in Rome, Italy. After having graduate from an Artistic high school in 1978, she began to work as a graphic artist in advertising. In 1981 she moved to London, where she attended a photography course (creative) at the Polytecnic of Central London. She then had a training as antique painting restorer in few galleries in London. Back to Rome in 1986, she works as visual artist.

My work was born first as a search for forms in space, understood as geometric shapes that first approached Cubism, and increasingly the Informal and Abstract; then they develop and overlap to give life to figures or elements that leave traces of their passage, to the point where is not possible to see them to our eyes, even under our feet. The Space_Time relationship, as I understand it, is suggested to me trough the forms of the visible and those of the invisible.

As well as the Space-time relationship, understood as Spatialism, from which we are not at all extraneous. The wall is often present in my work, to underline the traces left by man since ancient time. I don't follow any trend, I follow my hearth, my instint and my feelings; other times it is the result of a deeper and more intimate though; or simply dictated by the life around us, by Historical events, or traumatic events of our days. I really love working on portraiture, as it requires and reveals an intimate feeling with the person to be portrayed.

The artistic references closest to me are the informal and abstract art of the twenty century, from the American one, to Italian Arte Povera .... but it all steams from French Impressionism. In addition to painting, I like to work with different materials and methodologies, from sculptures, to the creation of objects on wood or metal.
