Steven Squires is a fine art painter whose work moves fluidly between realism, impressionism, and emerging abstract expressionism. Rooted in an early foundation of photorealism, his practice reflects a disciplined attention to detail and composition, later softened by an expressive use of light, color, and atmosphere. Influenced by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and contemporary impressionist mentor Niki Gulley, Squires creates paintings that balance structure with lyrical freedom.
Landscape has long served as a central subject in his work, offering a means of translating the natural world into spaces of quiet reflection. His paintings draw the outdoors inward, transforming scenes shaped by heat, cold, rain, or distance into moments of calm, warmth, and stillness. These works are conceived as environments—art that subtly shapes the emotional tone of a space and invites sustained engagement.
Recent work introduces abstract elements that allow for greater nuance and depth. This evolution reflects his belief that the most enduring works of art reward repeated viewing, revealing layers of meaning over time. Alongside his studio practice, he is a PhD-level ethicist, a background that informs his commitment to integrity, intentionality, and thoughtful craftsmanship rather than overt narrative.
Through layered color, refined brushwork, and carefully considered composition, Squires creates paintings that are both visually compelling and quietly resonant. His work is designed to be lived with—offering beauty, atmosphere, and a sense of contemplation that deepens with familiarity.
Steven Squires lives and works in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
