Wendy Cohen is a Cape Town, South African born, Sydney-based artist who has earned BFA and MFA degrees. She actively exhibits her work at Art Expo New York, Art Spectrum Miami, Art San Diego, and The Other Art Fair in Sydney. Inspired by her travels, Wendy is continually inspired by the interconnectedness of the world, and regardless of identity, the common elements of shapes, lines, forms and colours that make-up reality is the cohesion the work and the threads that bond humanity. Her works are based on an abstracted narrative of synchronized visual tapestries that highlight the mystery and intrigue of oneness of all of life
Freedom of expression reflects my intuition unencumbered by rigid rules and convention that dance with luminous colours, movement and emotion to transform the canvas into visual symphonies of shapes, lines, mark-making, textured gestural brushstrokes and variation of the colour palette. Imprecise brushstrokes and the chance effect, that are hallmarks of abstract expressionism, contrast the precision of geometric control creating composites that are dynamic and interesting. With a sense of curiosity, exploration and discovery, a lyrical genre is created that results in spontaneous mark-making as well as an exciting interplay between the various elements
