Judit Szendrei’s artistic journey did not follow the conventional path of early immersion and formal training. She balances multiple roles—an economist by profession, a mother of three, and an artist who discovered her creative passion later in life. While art had always intrigued her, it wasn’t until a seemingly simple activity with her daughter Zsofi, who has Down syndrome, loved soaking and drying postage stamps, turning it into a shared pastime. Over time, an extensive collection of similar stamps accumulated, prompting Szendrei to experiment with arranging them into shapes and patterns. What began as a casual activity soon transformed into a deeply fulfilling practice, bringing her both tranquility and the thrill of crafting something visually striking.
Szendrei’s work resists easy categorization. It intersects the boundaries of collage, mosaic, and montage, resulting in a technique she refers to as “MoCoMo by Stamps.” Unlike many artists who work within a consistent thematic framework, Szendrei embraces fluidity, ensuring that each piece remains a singular expression, unbound by recurring motifs. However, colour plays a unifying role in her portfolio—her works are often strikingly vibrant, composed of countless individual stamps that come together to form intricate visual symphonies.
As for her credo Judit is saying: “Making stamp pictures brings much joy to me. I wish to forward this joy to those who come to see my pictures.”
What I do is a very unique art as less than ten people in the world uses stamps for painting art pieces as to my knowledge. This technique is a mix, a bit of mosaic, a bit of collage and a bit of montage or as I used to call it in one-word MoCoMo Art by Stamps. I am very proud that I have developed it on my own. My art grew from a hobby to art as I am not only an artist but an economist in the same time as well.
In some cases the stamps themselves offer the idea to make a painting and in another cases I myself try to express my thoughts with the means of stamp painting. I like some times to re-work ideas of other artist in my pieces but it is also my strong intention to express my view on such topics like war and peace, interrelation between people.
To make pictures gives me an exceptional feeling of joy and my wish is to forward this joy to people viewing my pieces.
