Katy Bishop

Katy Bishop is a contemporary abstract painter based in Los Angeles who creates expressive images, gestural abstracts that fuse elements of perception, randomness, and control. Katy’s work is inspired by what she feels, not what she sees. The ethereal fluidity, vibrant color harmonies, and organic movement successfully create a visual language that is both abstract and emotionally evocative. In addition, Katy is known for her use of alcohol ink in reverse painting on plexiglass and glass.

Katy began her artistic journey as a young teen in Chicago. Feeling the profound impact of “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” while in scholarship classes at Chicago’s Art Institute, she began studying various artists like Seurat, Richter, Helen Frankenthaler, and Vivian Springford who inspired her to explore her own talents with perseverance and determination.

Her award-winning work has been displayed in the Pasadena Museum of History, the Loveland Colorado Museum, the Sasse Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum where she won the Golden Award.

Bishop has presented at least one solo exhibition each year since 2023, in Los Angeles and Santa Monica CA. Her artworks have been in group exhibitions in galleries in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, Burbank, Pasadena, Chicago, Rome, Venice, Tokyo, Istanbul and on many websites.

Katy Bishop is a member of The Los Angeles Art Association, Pasadena Society of Artists, the WCA, the International Association of Art – USA, and American Women Artists. She is on the Boards of Directors of the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art and The California Art League. Her work can be found in private collections across the country and in Japan.

I am a painter who creates expressive images, gestural abstracts that fuse elements of perception, randomness, and control in alcohol ink. My work is inspired by what I feel, not what I see. With the ethereal fluidity, vibrant color harmonies, and organic movement I strive to successfully create a visual language that is both abstract and emotionally evocative.

I embrace the unpredictability of alcohol inks on synthetic paper, canvas, and plexiglass. I guide the pigments through a delicate balance between control and surrender. Painting in reverse on glass or plexiglass intrigues me. When I flip the plexiglass around, I am thrilled when I have accomplished my vision.
