Claus Potthoff

The boundaries between design and art are redefined through the lens of Claus Potthoff. A creator who began photography in his youth and spent 31 years as a designer at Audi, he brings a precision-driven aesthetic into his photographic practice, developing a distinctive visual language of architecture.

This artwork presents more than just architectural photography it is a philosophical reflection on photography by a former automotive designer. When the rigor of design thinking meets the freedom of artistic expression, urban landscapes emerge with a stunning new dimension.

The first time he created this distinctive perspective on architecture was in 2015 during a journey to Paris in France. His aim was to capture a puristic view of buildings, isolated from crowded urban environments and any dramatic celestial scenarios, focusing solely on the beauty of architecture itself.

Addicted by monumental movies he chose the classic CinemaScope format with its extreme aspect ratio of 2.55:1, employing exciting perspectives and layouts full of tension, he creates his personal vision on architecture. Composing two images as diptychs or four images as tetraptychs strengthens his impressive creations even more.

It’s an invitation to follow his lens and rediscover the pure beauty of architecture, to experience the harmony of art and design, and to embark on a journey of exploration through architecture and photography.
