Kirsi Porrassalmi is a Finnish artist based in Tampere whose work centers on sensitivity, presence, and the quiet dialogue between inner experience and visual expression.
"Art becomes meaningful when it allows space for feeling rather than explanation."
Kirsi Porrassalmi's artistic practise is rooted in attentiveness and emotional awareness. Her work reflects a desire to translate inner states into visual form without forcing narrative or interpretation. Rather than directing the viewer toward a specific message, she allows color, rhythm, and composition to speak subtly and intuitively. Her paintings invite stillness and reflection, encouraging the viewer to engage on a personal level. Through a restrained yet expressive approach, Porrassalmi creates works that feel intimate and open, where meaning emerges through observation and emotional response rather than explanation.

Kirsi Porrassalmi (b. 1959) is a Finnish artist who lives and works in Tampere. After studying architecture at Tampere University of Technology, she devoted herself to art following the birth of her youngest child. Initially focused on painting, her practice later expanded into sculpture in the late 1990s. Working mainly with iron, wood and bronze, she explores the expressive strength of materials while continuing to create oil paintings.
My works arise from personal experiences and emotions that are difficult to express in words. I rarely follow strict plans. Instead, I allow the work to evolve freely during the process, often arriving at an unexpected result. The meaning of the piece usually reveals itself afterwards. Through materials such as iron, wood and bronze, I explore inner states and the quiet space between people, where emotion and interpretation can emerge naturally.
